Day 10: Tiger Leaping Gorge - Tina’s Guesthouse

We saw both the sunset over the mountains and woke in time to see the sun rise. It was a heavenly view to see the rays of sunshine peer over the mountain peak. We managed to drag ourselves out of the lovely warm room and have breakfast in the fresh courtyard with blue skies all round. Chocolate pancake and omelettes for energy we set off at approx 10am.The first section named 28 bends was lying as I am sure I counted at least 128 bends! The terrain was very steep but made easier with the gorgeous sun. We made it to the top after 2hrs at an elevation of 2,670m and took a breather as we soaked up the view.

Another hour and a half and we made it to the tea horse guest house where we dined on rice with chicken and beef. At lunch we met a lad from London who was studying Kung Fu in the gorge so we had a nice chat with him before continuing. The path descended slightly to 2,480m and levelled off nicely for an hour and a half hike to half way house. On the way we were gutted to realise that we had somehow mislaid our ipod which we believe to still be at Naxi’s.

We used the phone at half way house to call Naxi’s on the off chance they may have found it but it was an impossible conversation! Moving on we hiked a further hour and a half to Tina’s guesthouse at the end of the gorge. The path descended back to the low road passing a waterfall and many goats. The terrain was tough on the knees and with strong winds and steep cliff edges it was hard work.
On this last section we met Alex from USA and 2 lads from Israel. We are all staying at Tina’s where we all had dinner with a few beers sharing past experiences and future plans. The rooms here are fairly nasty nowhere near last nights standard. We have just seen a millipede make its way across the wall way too close to my bed for comfort! A lady here speaks good English and we asked her to call re the ipod but of course they did not find anything! Oh well.
